Heartboken

cat in basket

I been so heartbroken this week.

I found out that this guy has a large tumor near his spleen which is probably cancer. X-rays were taken and smaller masses were found near his lungs. Not much we can do at this point but spend quality time with him and make his final days happy.

When I started knitting a few years ago he quickly decided that he didn’t like sitting on my lap while I was knitting. I became the backup lap (whenever I wasn’t knitting). This week I can’t bear not to have my lap available for cuddling so I haven’t been knitting.
We’re doing ok at this point but it’s been difficult to know that we might need to make a very difficult decision soon.

I love this picture of him. While he doesn’t like knitting needles, he does love wool sweaters. He’s sitting on an almost completed sweater in one of my knitting baskets.

I’m thankful that we were able to spend 8 years together.

  1. I am so sorry to hear this….our Daisy has been gone for over a year now, and we still miss him. It is so hard, but you are right that the thing you need to do now is just keep loving him and cuddling him. Big hugs and prayers to you.

  2. Besides telling you that I felt terribly sorry … I don’t know what else I can say to make you feel better. It’s heartbreaking even for me to read the news! I’ll keep him in my thought … take care.

  4. I’m so sorry to hear about your little guy. I’m even sorrier, because he looks very much like my late kitty, Clea. You used to have a picture of him on your blog & it always made me smile to see it.
    My thoughts are with you.

  5. I’m so sorry about your cat. We lost one of our dogs to cancer a few years ago. I’ll always miss her. I hope you’re able to have some good quality snuggle time with your kitty.

  6. I’m so sorry! I’m going through the exact same thing right now and it totally sucks. I also understand how it can affect your knitting.
Take lots of photos, try to stay optimistic (because miracles do happen!), and spend lots of time with him! You’re in my thoughts.

  7. My heart is breaking for you. I had to put my dog down in January of this year. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. He was everything to me especially my knitting buddy. He actually liked being in my lap while I knitted. Since his passing, I try to knit but it’s different. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I understand how you feel and my heart aches for you.

  8. Thanks for all the encouragement.
It’s been a week and he’s still doing well. We’ve had some precious time together snuggling and doing routine things that are dear to us.
We’ve gotten over the shock from the news and are enjoying our remaining time with him.
Looks like he might hang on for a few weeks. He seems to be responding well to the medicine the Doc gave us. It won’t cure him but will give us some time.

  9. I am so sorry to hear about the kitty. Our kitty Tiger left us on Tuesday; she had squamous cell carcinoma, in her throat. (Pictures of Tiger are on my blog.) We spoiled her like crazy for the last weeks, including letting her go outside in the sun (she’s always been an indoor cat). It is very difficult to deal with but I hope she was able to enjoy the spoiling and know we loved her. I know your kitty will know you love him too.
