I Spy

This weekend I set aside my knitting to look for bears with a North Cascades Institute class taught by Chris Morgan. Although we saw many bear signs we didn’t actually see one. If you’re ever interested in learning more about bears, Chris gives a very informative and highly entertaining class.

Being such an avid knitter I always keep an eye out for any interesting sweaters that catch my eye wherever I go. This afternoon on my way to the bus, I spied a woman wearing a very interesting multi-colored hand knit sweater. At least I think it was hand knit.

As I stood behind her waiting for the street light to change, I noticed that my eyes started seeing very subtle large diamond shapes in the fabric, with some of the diamonds being more prominent then others. Perhaps the diamonds blended together so well because each appeared to be knitted with two strands of yarn. It sort of reminded me of color blended quilts that I’ve seen but with a much more subtle affect. It would be simply gorgeous done in hand spun yarns.

I did a google search for color blended sweater patterns but didn’t come up with anything. If anyone has heard of a pattern like this I’d be interested in learning more about it. In the mean time, I’ll keep searching the web.

  1. the dusk sweater in the jamieson’s 3 book blends colors, but it shifts the colors by rows, not by motifs. you hold 3 strands of shetland 2 ply together and change the colors. i just finished the sweater, it is beautiful. i think you can find a photo of it at two swans yarn. was a pretty fast knit.

  2. Thanks for the suggestions.
I checked the Jamieson’s book but didn’t see it.
My first though was that it could be something Kaffe Fasset designed but I checked all of his books and didn’t see anything like it.
I guess it will remain a mystery.

  3. The CIA had an opening for an assassin. After all of the background checks, interviews, and testing were done there were three finalists – two men and one woman. For the final test, the CIA agents took one of the men to a large metal door and handed him a gun.
“We must know that you will follow your instructions, no matter what the circumstances. Inside this room you will find your wife sitting in a chair. You have to kill her.” The first man said. “You cant be serious. I could never shoot my wife!”The agent replies, “Then you?re not the right man for this job.”
The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet for about five minutes. Then the agent came out with tears in his eyes. “I tried, but I cant kill my wife.” The agent replies, “You dont have what it takes. Take your wife and go home.”
Finally, it was the womans turn. Only she was told to kill her husband. She took the gun and went into the room. Shots were heard, one shot after another. They heard screaming, crashing, banging on the walls. After a few minutes, all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there stood the woman. She wiped the sweat from her brow and said, “You guys didnt tell me the gun was loaded with blanks. So I had to beat him to death with the chair.”
